Store as individual files

Postby AsafKeller » Sat Dec 05, 2009 1:14 am

Notational Velocity has a nice feature: In addition to storing notes in the database, one can store a copy of each note saved as .txt or .rtf. This offers interesting possibilities, such as syncing with an iPhone/iTouch (e.g. via SimpleText.ws) and accessing these files by other applications. IS this feasible in SB?

You can do this via File/Export. It's also available as option for printing -- one slip per page. This is available from version 0.9 onwards.

However, it's not possible to re-import these exported slips to update the ones in the box.

I did not make myself clear. In Notational Velocity the edited notes are automatically and continually saved both to the database and as individual notes. There is no need to export them. Both versions are identical.

+1 on this request. This is the single major reason preventing me from using SlipBox.

I'm an avid user of Simplenote + Notational Velocity. However, Simplenote is ... causing me pain, and I'm now looking for replacements. I've been eyeing this app for a while, but the import process effectively duplicating and then locking my notes into this app a hard sell. The other is openmeta tags – it looks like this app "supports" them, but if the notes aren't stored as individual files, what does that mean? Nearly all my notes are already tagged with keywords – and the import process does not preserve these. So I'd have to re-tag them all.

Ideally, I'd be able to :

- replace Simplenote with SlipBox on my phone.
- On the desktop, point both NV and SlipBox at the same directory : each note's already a single file, and already tagged.
- sync all these notes to my phone
- continue to use NV on the desktop, since I'm familiar with it
- gradually warm to SlipBox on the desktop over time, since it does have some very appealing features

I know it sorta seems like asking a lot, but really w/support for individual files & openmeta tags, I think it'd "just work". And it would be pretty awesome.

would it be possible to somehow support *links* to local files? This would nicely balance the desire to refer to the full text as well as the philosophy to avoid full text. บาคาร่า

I suspect that some of the development releases might actually be more stable than teh main one, as I know you've fixed a handful of bugs...
I'd certainly appreciate another release with some of the changes I've already read about. :)
